How do I know if I need emergency treatment?

If you think you are having an emergency you should call 911, your doctor, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Examples of emergent situations (this is only a brief list; if you are unsure, contact 911, your doctor, or visit the nearest emergency department) –

  • Chest Pain, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing
  • Seizures, fainting, dizziness
  • Sudden weakness, confusion, inability to speak/walk/see/talk, numbness or drooping on one side of the body
  • Open wounds, bone fracture, burns, injury to head, neck or spine
  • Poisoning or overdose of medication, illegal drug, or alcohol
  • Severe allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock

Who to contact if I have a question about my bill or need to provide insurance information?

Why did I get several bills for one visit?

Bills will be issued by Chesapeake Emergency Physicians and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare.

  • Chesapeake Emergency Physicians charges for the professional expertise and services provided by the emergency physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner, as well as any procedures performed by their providers.
  • Chesapeake Regional Healthcare charges for the hospital services.

How can I get a copy of my medical record?

Medical records must be obtained from the hospital.

How can I get a refill on a prescription?

Chesapeake Emergency Physicians do not provide prescription refills. Please contact your primary care physician for further assistance.
